We are having a new central heating/hot water system installed. The heating engineer has suggested we use one of these electronic scale inhibitors
http://www.wrappa.co.uk/

Are they likely to cause an EMF problem?

I don't know. We haven't tested those. It claims to us RF (radio-frequency) signals, so maybe it isn't such a good idea. If it is located away from where you spend much time them it may be fine. I see the same website offers the Liff Limebeater (at just over half the price) which is described as "electrolytic" and probably uses strong static magnets. It claims to do the same thing and won't give off EMFs.
