Hi Alasdair.
Have you anywhere on this site (or could you provide one), a good description of the correct process for using aluminium foil wrapped around hardboard form example and then earthing it to shield from a higher than desirable electric field. I believe I have read this in one of your books in the past. The shielding paint would be a waste as the family could move soon. The field is coming from the wiring in a bedroom wall and affecting the pillow area (35 v/m). There is another bed where the field is coming from both the wall and the floor so I expect shielding will be needed underneath as well. Thanks, Robert Gray. |

Robert
apologies for the slight delay.
(1) move the bed away from the wall by as much as possible (at least 10cm). This is often enough.
(2) if you need to use earthed foil, then you usually need to put it under the bed legs and on the wall. If you only do one, you can end up increasing the electric fields as they head for the nearest earthed surface which can be the person lying in the earthed bed. Most electric fields upstairs come up from the floor through the bed and not from the wall. Try under the carpet/bed legs first. Just use cooking foil, catering extra-strength grade is best for workability, and take a wire from that to a metal radiator pipe or to the Earth pin of a mains plug - you should have the earthing checked first, though. Ideally, cover the foil with plastic or paper to reduce the chance of an electric shock in the case of a wiring fault.
