When calculating the Radiation Exposure Index value for a mobile phone mast, using the details found on Sitefinder, do I use the 'maximum licensed power' or the 'transmitter power'?
Thanks,
Carole Nettles

Carole,
You would use the transmitter power, as the maximum is what is applied for but rarely used.

The sitefinder site may not now be accurate, as they ceased updating it at the end of 2006.

Accurate information is harder to find than it used to be. Your local planning department may have details of new equipment additions.

Jean

Dear Jean,
Thank you for your reply. That's clarified things for me. I've recently been to see our MP about a mast for the first time. I felt I needed to check that I've got my facts right before I approach him on this one, which is a microcell, and directly opposite the local Cancer Research charity shop!
Thanks once again.

Microcells should only be a few watts, however they can be far higher.
It is a scandelous situation. The Industry (CENELEC) published a Standard that the Industry then ignore, saying "all we have to worry about are the much higher ICNIRP levels).

The NRPB (HPA-RPD now) have not even measured these ones:
"It was noted that some 2000 of the 32,837 base stations, or around 6%, were radiating more than 5 watts at heights up to 10 m. In conjunction with the MTHR project monitors, it was considered whether these transmitters should be included. It was decided that they should not be and that this project should concentrate on the low power sites in order to stay true to its original aim of considering microcells as low-height / low-power transmitters."
NRPB W62 Report.
