measuring instrument

We are moving house from city to countryside (in Italy). I would like to buy an EMF measuring instrument that gives the total load of a field (ie not the spectrum of individual fields but the total) of high frequencies in Volts per meter. It should be relatively easy to use and able to measure frequencies from the following: mobile phone masts, television broadcast masts, TETRA systems, hyperlan systems, WiMax (between 2.3 and 5.8 GHz) etc.
What instruments do you recommend, where can they be bought etc? Does Powerwatch offer anything suitable? I am not in a position to pay thousands of pounds.
All suggestions gratefully recieved!

Another question: what is your experience of fields in town versus in the countryside? In town we live in a ground-floor flat and my sense is that the building protects us somewhat from surrounding fields. There may be less EMF pollution in the country, but one is more exposed. What do people think?

Hi Johnny

The COM monitor (http://www.emfields.org/equipment/com.asp) will cover pretty much everything you're after.
HOWEVER, although its upper range is over 3 GhZ, it may not pick up the upper end of WiMax (up to 5.8GhZ) as accurately (although it is likely to pick up some of the signal).

The only other instrument that Powerwatch/EMFields offer that will do all of the above is the HFE35 microwave monitor but this is definitely NOT "easy to use" and it is quite expensive (this is also NOT a broad spectrum monitor like the COM, it is particular to frequency).

As a generality, although individual places may differ, measured fields in towns are higher than found in the countryside.

Hope that helps!
