hello, I have a wireless thermostat in my parents house and in the basement flat cuboaerd where the boiler is and i also live, do u think that even though the thermostat above me doesnt make a noise on the smog dectetor that it will still be giving off high microwave radiation, and would the control attached to the boiler just be a reciever or would it also be sending out signals to?

many thanks, peter.

They do use low-frequency microwave signals (often 440 to 470 MHz band) but these are very low power and mostly unmeasureable. If they are not making noises on the MW1 ES Detector then I would not worry. The ones I have measured use very weak signals indeed. Most now send signals both ways to ensure that the sensor is awake and working and communicating well as a safety feature. If the remote sensor uses a battery that needs replacing just once a year (most do) then the total energy it can transmit is tiny - otherwise the battery would quickly go flat.
