20th August 2002 THE BLUE ANGEL ECO-LABEL
The Blue Angel website www.blauer-engel.de states that in light of the precautionary principle, minimising exposure is appropriate because of "indications of harmful health effects" at lower levels than the ICNIRP limit. The phones must also meet requirements for recycling. For almost 25 years now the story of the Blue Angel has been a continuous story of success.
Today, about 3700 products and services of some 780 label users in Germany and abroad are certified "Blue Angel" products.
The phone manufacturers' are dismissing the sticker as "inappropriate and nonsensical", implying that other phones could be hazardous!
Hands-free kits for mobile phones may be exposing unborn children to increased hazards
More people are choosing to use mobile phone hands-free kits to reduce their exposure to potentially brain-damaging radiation. However, the possibility of embryonic and foetal damage is now increasing as pregnant women potentially move the radiating cell phone units near to their abdomen. One particular reason to avoid RF radiation exposure during pregnancy is that an embryo/foetus may not be fully protected by amniotic fluid for extended periods of time due to the natural movement of the mother or the embryo/foetus within the womb. Secondly, the pelvic structure promotes deep RF radiation penetration and that radiation can be absorbed within the developing embryo/foetus. Published research results continue to reinforce the general understanding that human exposure to RF radiation can cause damaging genetic effects. These effects include chromosome damage, DNA damage and cancer. One area not yet adequately researched is the possible link between the increasing rate of Autism, and damage to an embryo or foetus caused by increasing levels of RF radiation exposure. No other environmental substance has become so globally widespread as has human-generated RF radiation. Industry-funded researchers reporting a link between RF radiation exposure and genetic damage have found that their research programs were prematurely terminated. This also happened to researchers a generation ago when RF radiation biological effects were first made known.
Health and Safety responsibilities from 24th July have moved from the Department of Transport to the Department of Work and Pensions. An MP's Office has said that it can take up to 6 months for a reply from Ministers these days! The Health and Safety Executive will not come out to Chorleywood, in Hertfordshire to investigate why 50 metres of pavement measure over six volts per metre. A local campaigner wants to know by what procedure or by whose order the Health and Safety are refusing to carrying out their legal duty to police mast emissions.
Let YOUR voice be heard! Any public listed company will have shares that can be purchased, and the law states that share holders are entitled to attend AGMs. If enough people will commit to purchasing one share each for the various phone companies, then a block of shares will be brought in order that they can be distributed to members who might want to attend any of the AGMs. This gives a right to attend AGMs and ask relevant questions of the board of the company concerned. It also apparently costs about £25 to service each share holder, and you get lots of glossy info. So there is the prospect of buying a single share in your favourite company, cost them oodles of dosh every year, and have the chance to give a hard time to the boards of directors.
TETRA makes police ill: TETRA has been piloted by Lancashire Police for the last 12 months and in that time 174 officers have complained of ill-health (migraines, nausea, nose bleeds and fatigue) that they believe is related to the new handset. Greater Manchester Police was due to be using the system in time for the Commonwealth Games, but technical problems caused its withdrawal in February this year. It has now been re-introduced into Salford, with a view to extending it across Manchester. Barrie Trower, an independent scientist, predicted (last September) 310 sick officers and 3-4 cancers in 2 years. After 12 months, 174 officers are sick. Lancashire's Police Federation are concerned about the wellbeing of their officers. "To spend £2.5 billion on a radio system that doesn't work properly, is late, and could pose a threat to officer health is a gross dereliction of duty to look after our police officers" said Tatton MP George Osborne. (Reported in Manchester Metro News July 19th). Now, apparently, over 200 officers!
Devon Fire Authority bans mobile phone masts and antennas from its stations until it can be proved they pose no health dangers. The ban was announced when the authority refused permission for Airwave to put a new TETRA antenna on top of Moretonhampstead fire station. Airwave (TETRA) is disappointed and surprised at the decision. They are seeking an alternative site in the Moretonhampstead area. O2 had already withdrawn a similar proposal for an antenna on the station at North Tawton after its part-time crew and nearby householders protested. A spokesperson said "In order to ensure the safety of the general public and police officers, it is essential that there is a transmitter to ensure that there are no blackspots in coverage for the emergency services in an area heavily used by tourists." (The East Devon Express and Echo July 26th)
Michael Olivant and 13 other cancer sufferers live near a mobile phone mast in Pennsylvania, Exeter. 9 of these have died. The mast was put up in 1981 and has had numerous additions since then. Mr Olivant believes the cancers have occurred over the past 10 years in a strip of land about 50 metres wide in a direct line North from the mast in approximately 450 yards. He wants no more additions and is fighting for the mast's removal. (The East Devon Express and Echo July 26th).
Tiverton residents are protesting against 3G's plans to install a mast in the grounds of a football club. Work on the site is already under way as objections arrived too late to influence the council's decision to approve the mast. If the approval is not revoked, a local resident intends to seek a judicial review. (The East Devon Express and Echo July 26th)
Male Animals became Violent, when exposed to radiofrequency radiation 21 Aug 2002: Male Animals became violent at Penny Hargreaves Ouruhia farm in New Zealand after the second FM radio transmitter was added to the existing two AM transmitters on the neighbouring radio tower.
Two quiet bulls brought in to service her heifers, in a paddock 150 metres away from the tower, became so vicious within three weeks that they had to send them home, where they immediately quietened again. The cows did not seem to be affected. In 1999 she had rented her farm to a farmer for fattening stock. He did not have a problem until he bought breeding cows and a bull. Within a month the bull was going berserk, jumping into neighbour's property and terrifying them. The farmer removed all his stock and terminated his tenancy. She has since heard of several other bulls kept in paddocks within 1 kilometre of the radio tower that have become violent and been destroyed.
In 1995 her stallion refused to go in the paddock next to the radio tower. He had been kept as a colt because he was so quiet but he suddenly changed personality and became very violent and difficult to handle. He also developed skin sores and a mystery lameness in his hooves. Sometimes could hardly move and vets could not find the cause. They believe the metal shoes would have conducted the RF. He was in an area which was monitored in 1999 as being close to the maximum radiation level. They gave him a holiday in another area and within a month he was his old happy self, bucking and playing. Back in the paddock near the "hot spot" he again became aggressive and trotted as if he was on hot bricks. In 1996 after we had moved all the horses away from the farm he reverted to his old self. His fertility rate increased from 25% to 100%, he no longer has trouble walking and his hooves are now normal. One male dog, who lived approximately two kilometres from the antenna within a month of the second FM transmitting became so aggressive it ate his smaller friend.
The Federal Communications Commission reports that the first thing affected by EMR exposure are the eyes and the testicles, which could account both for the aggression in the bulls and stallions, and the stallion's reduced fertility. There is a cluster of ill people within this two kilometre radius, who experience interference with their telephone with radio from the Ouruhi transmitter and other electronic equipment.
When the Ouruhia residents lawyer examined the medical reports for Dr Hockings study of 40 people living in the area, she commented on the quantity of men going to their doctor with symptoms of extreme irritability since the 2nd FM transmitter was added. Gerald Lincoln, a Researcher at the Medical Councils Human Reproductive Sciences Unit in Edinburgh says that men of all ages are increasingly suffering from testosterone swings, caused by stress, a condition scientists had thought affected only male primates and other animals but not men. Studies on primates have found that stress triggers a rise in corticosteroid levels which in turn pushes down testosterone. His colleague Richard Anderson found that men who cannot produce testosterone become irritable and depressed without hormone replacement therapy. It would be good to monitor testosterone levels in men who are living near communication bases and showing signs of irritability and also when away from the RF source and see if there are altered effects when back at home again. Could these changes in testosterone levels be attributed to increased road rage? Penny's observations of her animals showed complete changes in personality of males exposed and reversion to normal personality when unexposed.
